I’ve lived by the sea my entire life, drawn to its uninterrupted horizon and rhythmic tides. I often go to the sea to watch the high tide rise and fall, capturing it at its zenith before it recedes. Standing by a sea wall, I observe the incoming swell as it rebounds and reflects, creating mesmerizing patterns on the surface.
Through drawings, sketches, oil studies, videos, photos, and slow-motion films, I capture these moments. Back in the studio, I distill them into something that reflects how the sea makes me feel. My goal is to combine the best moments of those hours spent by the water into a vision of pure salt and spray.
In my paintings, I try to convey the pull of the sea—the tides’ ebb and flow—and its profound effect on our consciousness. We go to the sea searching for something, but what is it we truly seek?
I want viewers to feel the sea, to almost smell the salty air as they stand before my work. Waves are frozen, and their intricate patterns are revealed. Ultimately, I aim to capture the essence of nature, creating a serene space far from the noise of the busy world around us.
